Linda Nazareth

Linda Nazareth is an economist, author, broadcaster, and keynote speaker. The Senior Fellow for Economics and Population Change at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute and a frequent media commentator, she is an expert on demographics and trends, and uses a wide range of media to communicate her observations about a world in transition. Her own career capsulizes what reinvention looks like, and how you have to think out of the box to make the most of what you have.

Nazareth’s fourth book, Work Is Not a Place: Our Lives and Our Organizations in the Post-Jobs Economy draws on the research she has been building for years as well as the insights gained from interacting with audiences across a range of sectors. With it, she is eager to engage people in thinking about what the world might look like when we replace the idea of “jobs” with that of “work” – and why that might not be a bad idea at all.

Nazareth has also been published in many other publications including the Globe and Mail. Unusual for an economist, she spent over a decade as a full-time television broadcaster in-house economist for Business News Network (BNN), the business cable arm of CTV. Daily she covered the economic news of the day on-air, looking at the markets and the economic indicators and giving viewers analysis and context. Linda was also one of the first economists to accurately warn of the global recession and its likely severity. Prior to joining BNN, she was a Senior Economist with CIBC, and earlier in her career, she was an economist with the federal government where she specialized in demographic and labour market forecasting. She holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in economics, both from the University of Toronto.

Nazareth speaks frequently to conferences, corporations and business groups, helping them to look at the big picture and then dilute it down to what it means for their organizations. The future can be a scary place, but it can also be an exciting one. Linda believes that understanding the trends is the first step to being excited about what comes next, and she loves to help audiences navigate the big picture and make plans for their own transformations.

Dr. Helen Papagiannis

Dr. Helen Papagiannis has been working with augmented reality (AR) for a decade as a researcher, designer, and technology evangelist. In her cutting-edge talks, Papagiannis takes audiences through the present and future realities that AR both invents and manifests. AR is not a replacement for our current, tangible reality. Rather, Papagiannis shows all the ways that AR makers are using the technology to amplify human intelligence, focus our engagement with real spaces, and, paired with Artificial Intelligence, improve our health. Papagiannis was named among the NEXT 100 Top Influencers of the Digital Media Industry. She is the former Chief Innovation Officer at Infinity Augmented Reality Inc. and Senior Research Associate at York University’s Augmented Reality Lab.

Jeffrey Selingo

Jeffrey Selingo is a best-selling author and award-winning columnist who helps people imagine the college and university of the future and how to succeed in a fast-changing economy. His latest book, There Is Life After College, explores how today’s young adults need to navigate school for the job market of tomorrow. He is also the author of College (Un)Bound: The Future of Higher Education and What It Means for Students, a New York Times bestselling education book in 2013, and MOOC U: Who Is Getting the Most Out of Online Education and Why. A regular contributor to the Washington Post, Jeff is a special advisor and professor of practice at Arizona State University and a visiting scholar at Georgia Tech’s Center for 21st Century Universities. He is the former top editor of the Chronicle of Higher Education, where he worked for 16 years in a variety of reporting and editing roles.

Selingo’s writing has also appeared in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Slate, and he is a contributor to LinkedIn, where you can follow his blog posts on higher education. He has appeared on ABC, CNN, PBS and National Public Radio. He is a senior advisor and professor of practice at Arizona State University and a visiting scholar at the Center for 21st Century Universities at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Andrew Schrumm

Andrew Schrumm is Senior Manager, Research, in the Office of the CEO at RBC.

Schrumm is the research lead for RBC’s thought leadership, examining how Canada can enter the 2020s as a diverse, innovative and sustainable nation. He manages RBC’s future skills research project that is advancing thinking on skills-based job mobility, lifelong learning and the potential of automation in our economy. His career has been split between roles in research and regulatory policy, revolving on the question of how institutions and markets respond to change. Most extensively, he managed research projects at the Centre for International Governance Innovation, on topics covering the G20 and global finance, emerging economies and energy politics. Schrumm also served as policy manager and advisor on international financial regulation, at both the Ontario Securities Commission and the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. vSchrumm holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Studies and master’s degree in Finance from Queen’s University.
